The next meeting of the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies Postgraduate Study Group will be held this Thursday (28 January) in St John’s College, Durham.

This meeting of the Study Group will look at a recent article published in the Journal of Victorian Culture. We will be discussing Peter K. Andersson's recent article, 'How Civilized Were the Victorians?', and responses to it on the JVC blog. This article has generated a lot of discussion on blogs and particularly on social media.

We are delighted to welcome to our study group one of the contributors to the JVC blog: Sophie Franklin, a PhD candidate in English Studies, Durham University, who has written one of the responses to Andersson's article and has agreed to lead the discussion through this thought-provoking article.

Postgraduate students across all humanities disciplines at all levels are very welcome to participate in the study group. Further information can be found on the CNCS website, here.
