Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies Postgraduate Study Group, March 1

Laura O'Brien

The next meeting of the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies Postgraduate Study Group will take place at Northumbria on Tuesday 1 March. The group will meet in Lipman Building, room 334, at 4pm.

The theme for the meeting will be the cultural lives of material objects, with Jennifer Sattaur’s article on ‘thing theory’ in Victorian Studies providing the starting point for the discussion. All participants are encouraged to bring along an object, a picture, or a short extract relevant to this fascinating theme. The reading for this meeting can be found here.

This will be the fourth meeting of the Study Group, which was established in December 2015 to provide a friendly and informal environment for interaction and discussion between postgraduates in the region. To date, the wide-ranging themes explored by the Study Group have included ‘The Festive Nineteenth Century’, civilisation and the Victorians, and film and TV adaptations of nineteenth-century novels.

Postgraduate students and staff across all humanities disciplines are very welcome to participate in the Study Group. Further information can be found on the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies website here.
